Steve ‘Torps’ Torpey: “It was a great performance!”
By James Grayson
After a spell out of the team Steve Torpey is back and aiming to score the goals to send Celtic to safety.
The 37 year-old grabbed Celtic’s third goal in their demolition of Woking, ‘Torps’ was delighted with the victory, he said: “It was a great performance, probably the best since I have been here. Halifax was a close one but today was an all-round one, clean sheet and three goals.”
‘Torps’ claimed only his second goal since joining, but today’s was an important one, he said: “I was delighted with my goal. I came across my defender and he was tied to me, so I swivelled around him and then swung my left foot at it and it went in. My goal killed the game off, so it was an important one.”
Celtic’s player-coach seems to be forming a good partnership with Damian Reeves just at the time David McNiven is about sign from Stafford. ‘Torps’ is confident of remaining in the first X1, he commented: “Hopefully, I played on Tuesday and didn’t think I had a too good game. But the manager stuck with me and hopefully I’ve given him food for thought.
‘Torps’ laughed off the suggestion that he’s proving his critics wrong by saying he always has them, he said: “I’ve always had a bit of stick for the kind of player I am but today it was nice to play well and grab a goal.”
