Farsley Celtic were today deprived of the oppurtunity to secure the long term future of the club and the availability of well needed sports facilities when Leeds City Council's Planning Committee voted against the redevelopment of the Throstle Nest Site.

During the course of a forty five minute hearing council officials rejected the application which would have enabled Bellway Homes to redevelop part of the site with the construction of affordable flats and houses with the money generated from the sale of the land used to redevelop the clubhouse, main stand, sports hall and outer pitches.

Elizabeth Minkin (labour), a councillor for Kirkstall led the opposition, condemning the application for its willingness to build houses upon a greenfield site, despite the Planning Officers recommendation that the value to the local community of improved sports facilities outweighed the Council's policy of prioritising residential building upon Brownfield areas.

Club President John Palmer, who sat through the proceedings expressed his disappointment after the hearing. "I don't know where we go from here, it is just so disappointing" he told farsleyceltic.net. Chairman Andy Firbank hinted that the club would consider appealing the decision.
