Dominic Krief: “I can’t say I meant it!”

By James Grayson

Goal-scoring hero Dominic Krief was over-the-moon with Celtic’s victory over Cambridge which kept the survival hopes ticking.

Dom was delighted with the surprise win and hailed the weather as an important factor, he said: “It’s a massive win for us, it has been said in the press that anything we got from this game would be a bonus. However because of the wind and the rain they were moaning before the game, as a result we knew we had a chance today, it proved to be the case.”

Dom praised his team-mates for the character they showed despite Cambridge taking a surprise lead, he commented: “We had the wind behind us the second half and they managed to score with their first chance. It was a lucky deflection and some people were thinking it was going to be one of those days. But we have a massive team spirit and once as we got back into the game, we knew we could get the winner.”

Dom’s winner came in the 69 th minute and Dom admitted he didn’t mean it, he said: “We were told that to smash the ball at the goal on every chance to see what would happen. Fortunately I’ve smashed it and its gone straight into the top corner. I think I was the last to know but I can’t say I meant it.”

Celtic travel all the way to Weymouth for the latest ‘biggest game of the season’ and Dom is confident, he said: “We’re massively confident, in the Rushden game up until the sending-off; it has been the best we’ve played. We have gone out today and beaten a team that has won five out of the last six. The boys were saying in the dressing room they wished the game was tomorrow, but we will go down there and get three points.
