Farsley began their first league game in the 5th tier of English football with the full support of the Yorkshire Evening Post in brilliant sunshine in front of a crowd of 825. It took only 12 minutes before Damian Reeves gave the Celts the lead, latching on to a cross from Sctt McNiven to fire Farsley in front.

Minutes later James Knowles was adjudged to have pushed in the box and referee Curry pointed to the spot and cautined Knowles. McAughtiries's spot kit was well saved by Farsley keeper Paul Cuss. Reeves had an oppotunity to make it 2-0 but Alcock made a comfortable save.

In the second half Stafford had two clear chances in front of goals and made a mess of both. At the other end a McNiven free kick hit the post. Mark Jackson, Tristam Whitman and Damian Dunne were all introduced and made good contributions. In injury time Knowles was sent off for a second yellow card.
