Farsley Celtic lost their first game of the season, against Rushden & Diamonds to a single goal at Nene Park on Tuesday night. In the first 5 minutes, Farsley Celtic piled on the pressure with 4 back-to-back corners, however it was Rushden who looked most like scoring coming close on a few occasions. Gareth Grant had the opportunity to give Farsley the lead mid-way through the first half however Rushden ‘keeper Bastock bravely pounced on the ball as Grant looked set to score. However Rushden took the lead when Hatswell nodded Michael Rankine's flick past debutant keeper Kyle Sutcliffe in the 28th minute.

In the second half Farsley upped the tempo, but failed to get passed the well-organised Rushden defence. Simeon Bambrook went closest when his driven shot was deflected past Bastock but grazed the top of the bar. A lively Amjad Iqbal, nearly equalised for Farsley in the closing moments of the game following a splendid cross by substitute Roy Stammer, but his header was well saved by Rushden ‘keeper.
